What is it?
We’re always looking out for new sleep aid products to review, so when we came across this simple, yet sophisticated looking bottle at Walgreens, we couldn’t resist.
When looking through the official website, we were quite shocked at how many claims the product is associated with. There’s a total of 9 bullet points describing what the product can help you with, including restful and uninterrupted sleep, better mood, protective response to stress and anxiety, magnesium support, amino acid supply to create serotonin, etc.
We love the word play on the product branding, but can this sleep-aid supplement shine through in a market full of already established, well-known, esteemed sleep enhancing products? Let’s find out.
What’s in it?
The ingredients list is quite simple, which is great news. A list consisting of more than 15-20 ingredients typically lead to a lot of eye-rolling here at the office because we know that tons of substances = lowered potency. If you’re wondering what Rest-Assured packs in every capsule, keep reading.
- L-Tryptophan 500 mg
L-Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that once absorbed in the body, is converted into 5-HTP, which turns into serotonin. As we know, serotonin is the neurotransmitter responsible for sleep and mood regulation. Increased levels of serotonin not only regulate proper sleeping patterns, it also enhances mood. Say hello to calmer nights and better mornings!
- GABA 500 mg
GABA is a very popular supplement used to induce sleep. It works in the brain by calming those firing neurotransmitters and signaling them that it’s time for bed. Many GABA users report feeling much more calm and tranquil after taking the supplement before bedtime.
- Relora 250 mg
Relora is actually a blend of two ancient Chinese herbs: Magnolia officinalis and Phellodendron amurense. These two herbal extracts help to reduce anxiety by calming the nervous system. For this reason, relora is often used to help tackle sleeplessness issues. Clinical trials on relora have also shown an improvement with depression and tension.
- Black Pepper Extract 2.5 mg
The spice you add to your everyday meal has more benefits that you ever imagined. Not only does it regulate acid secretion in the stomach, thereby improving digestion, but it can also help relieve symptoms of sleep apnea (snoring while you sleep).
What can it do for you?
Based on our knowledge of sleep-aid ingredients, we are quite sure that Rest-Assured’s blend will at the very least promote relaxation. The formula may not be strong enough to knock you out, so for all the insomniacs out there, we suggest you direct your attention elsewhere. The reviews available online from customers who have experimented with product seem to contradict each other. Tracy Rodrigues from Amazon.com commented that Cenegenics Rest-Assured “works ok most of the time”. Meanwhile, clyd posted a review stating “nothing great or good about it did not do anything for me” on DrugStore.com. This shows us that despite the good formula, the product is not everyone’s cup of tea.
Is it safe?
The only obvious side effect tied with this product is drowsiness and lethargy. The doses of each ingredient are not packed in abundance so while we cannot guarantee the absence of any side effects, it is very unlikely that a healthy adult should experience any. Remember to only take the product before bedtime and not while operating any heavy machinery.
How much is it?
Each bottle contains 90 capsules and costs $35.99 + shipping on the official website. The suggested dose is 3 capsules before bedtime, meaning the bottle is a month’s worth of product. This price tag is definitely more demanding than other sleep-aids, but perhaps pricing is not a concern for certain customers.
If you’re on a budget and can’t be bothered to spend over $30 on a product that is not guaranteed to work, be happy to know that there are better options available for a cheaper price. Cenegenics Rest-Assured has a good formula that may work for some people to promote calmness and induce sleep. In general, however, it seems as though customers have not been too impressed with the product. For this reason we assume that Rest-Assured is suitable only to those with very mild and occasional sleeplessness. The sleep-aid market is very competitive, and amongst products like MusclePharm’s Iron Dreams – which can help with muscle recovery overnight – or Lumonol Luna – which can enhance cognitive function during sleep – Cenegenics Rest-Assured does not really stand out from the rest of the crowd.
