What is Dream Water?
“Work Hard. Play Hard. Sleep Easy.” Or at least that’s the life motto of Dream Water’s manufacturers. Each Dream Water shot contains “2.5 ounces of rest and relaxation.” With three ingredients, Dream Water is designed to help you fall asleep and improve the quality of your sleep.
What’s in it?
Although the website does not offer a full supplement facts label, it does tell us that Dream Water contains 3 ingredients – GABA, Melatonin and 5-HTP.
GABA is a neurotransmitter naturally present in the brain. It works as our body’s natural sedative and produces calming effects. When taken as a supplement, GABA can help to reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.
Melatonin is a hormone produced by our pineal glands. Its main function is to regulate our sleep and wake cycle, to ensure that we have a consistent body clock. Melatonin supplements are often used to reduce anxiety and to regain natural sleeping patterns.
5-HTP affects our brain by increasing the production of serotonin – a neurotransmitter responsible for regulating mood and sleep. This substance is often used to treat sleep disorders, depression and anxiety.
What can it do for you?
There are definitely more popular sleeping aids out there, but Dream Water does have a few fans. Here’s someone who took the shot before a long flight:
“I do not believe this is a hoax. I do believe however, it might not be the right product for everyone, but that can only be discovered by trying it out.
I found this at the airport and thought I would give it a try since I had a 4 and a half hour flight coming up. Generally I am very fidgety throughout flights and I can never ever seem to sleep without knocking myself out with prescription meds. For a shorter flight I find using those a bit of an exaggeration so I figured I would try this.
After I settled myself into my seat, I drank the dream water and started reading my magazine. About 20 minutes later my eyes started getting heavy and I put my book away. 3 hours later I woke up refreshed with only an hour left to travel! I was so happy! I didn’t feel groggy, I’d slept through the drink-service, hadn’t been twisting and turning in my seat. To me this is the perfect item to pack into my hand luggage for those longer trips….Please don’t automatically assume this is a hoax, there are actually people that benefit from products like this.” – Amazon.com
While the shot worked wonderfully for the above customer, some people had a different experience:
“This is really good when it works but is not consistent. I am not sure what the circumstances need to be to ensure its success. Since it is a bit pricey, I wouldn’t purchase it again as I am never sure that for me, it will be successful. When it works, its great! When it doesn’t, it is disappointing.” – Amazon.com
Is it safe?
There are no side effects directly associated with Dream Water’s formula. However, if you are sensitive to melatonin or any other sleep-inducing substances then you may experience dizziness, dry mouth and difficulty waking up the next day. If you experience any of these symptoms then please discontinue use and consult your physician.
How much is it?
Dream Water can be bought in packs of 4 shots for $14.99 via their official website. You can also buy the product on Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Drugstore.com and eVitamins.com. The prices vary, but they range from about $9-14. This is definitely overpriced for a sleeping aid. Most sleep enhancing supplements cost around $25 for a month’s supply. So $14 for a 4-day supply is pushing it.
When it comes to ingredients, Dream Water definitely has it sorted. Since Dream Water made such a good first impression, we had high expectations for its results. However, it seems that this product is inconsistent and only works sometimes. People who drink it before long flights enjoy the ability to sleep through 17-hours of boredom, but people who genuinely suffer from insomnia cannot rely on such unpredictable results. We are also aware that some people do not like liquid products and would much prefer taking the more convenient route of popping 1 pill before bedtime.
